I had a lovely afternoon and evening with my friends Pam and Bob Anderton, organisers of Formby folk club. The club is located at the Guild Hall in Formby. A lovely spacious room. The resident band The Shanty Kings started off the evening in great form followed by a series of talented singers performing their own sets. My turn came just before the halftime break. I played Mind Over Matter, One Of Those Days and concluded with what I thought was a very apt song Boslem Wakes, a story of four lads from Stoke and their exploits in Blackpool on their wakes week holiday. The song was written in the ’60s by a great singer and writer from Stoke name Brian Berrington. The audience was most appreciative of my set and I was very touched by their friendly enthusiastic response. The icing on the cake was to see and hear two of my old music mates, Chris Lock, and Ian Tupling probably better known as Loctup-Together. They sang some songs from their brand new CD – Bouncing Over The White Clouds. What a talented and funny duo they are – I loved every minute. At the end of the evening, I was surprised and thrilled to be approached by a number of people who had the most complimentary comments to make about the songs and who expressed their pleasure to hear that I was back performing – I was quite touched and taken aback by their enthusiasm. I was even more thrilled to be invited back to the club to perform one of their “Big Spots” at a later date yet to be arranged. A good time was had by all and I even got to take home some of Pam’s excellent carrot cake muffins to enjoy later – Thanks to all concerned. I had a really lovely evening. See you all again soon.
